Well tonight it’s my girlfriend and producer Angela‘s birthday, so the first song is by request from her, a beautiful number by a Belgian-Israeli-German-etc combo from the ’80s, as featured on Wim Wenders’ Wings of Desire soundtrack. Quite a lot of new stuff featured tonight, including a sneak preview of the new album from The Books! Minimal Compact – When I Go [Mute] Sunday, 20th of February, 2005

Piles of new stuff tonight, coming out of our ears, but there’ll also be a few nice flashbacks to excellent UFog music from times past. Severed Heads – Your Kidneys (With Dr. Cherry) [manasoundtracks Sunday, 13th of February, 2005

Tonight is the night that. As you can see, I’ve run out of words. Luckily, my show presents a lot of instrumental music, and what the hell, if it’s not instrumental the artists can supply the words for me. Newness this week comes from Apparat, one of the blokes who co-runs the Shitkatapult label. Very nice glitchy electronic stuff, here with live strings and some vocals. Also some instrumental electronic rock from Ireland from God Is An Astronaut, very much in the vein of Epic 45 or 65daysofstatic. God Is An Astronaut – Suicide By Star [Revive Records]

Utility Fog teeters on the cusp between acoustic and electronic, organic and digital. Constantly changing and rearranging, this aural cloud of nanotech will take you from deep within the world of post-rock (where live musicians sometimes sound like machines), through the realms of folktronica (where acoustic instruments are chopped and processed into new forms) and into the outer reaches of idm and experimental electronica (where artificial intelligences skitter and crackle, and may just pull at your heart-strings). Since all these genre names are already pretty ridiculous, we thought we'd coin a new one. So "postfolkrocktronica" it is. Wear it. Now available: free "Live on Utility Fog" downloads!
