Playlist 17.11.13 (8:33 pm)

Gracing Utility Fog (guest-hosted by Heli Newtown) tonight are the electric (ironically, they all play acoustic instruments) and energetic Sydney act, The Crooked Fiddle Band.

As I went with the intention of going with an "all acoustic/unplugged" theme for this week's show, there were a few electronic/glitch-based releases this week that were just too hard to ignore. Death Grips maintain their D.I.Y and giving-the-finger-to-major-labels practice by springing upon us a new and typically abrasive album (which is available for FREE!), 'Government Plates'. Plus, Autechre's 'L-Event' EP had finally hit Australian shores this week.

But, as you can tell, the playlist progressively turned into what I had initially planned. Starting off with the glitched out stringed improv. stylings from Sydney's Tangents, to the stunning folk stylings of Chantal Acda, which was subsequently complimented by the compositional force of Teho Teardo in collaboration with former Bad Seed and current Einstürzende Neubauten powerhouse,  Blixa Bargeld.

Oh, and yeah... The Crooked Fiddle Band were interviewed (swell bunch o' guys and gal), where Eastern European instruments, obscure youtube clip discoveries, and Steve Albini had been discussed. They also delivered an animated, yet intimate performance, too.

1. Death Grips - Whatever I Want (Fuck Who's Watching)
2. Autechre - Newbound
3. HTRK - Love Triangle (Electrical Storms Version)
3. Tangents - Stitches
4. North Atlantic Drift - Obsidian Flows
5. Chantal Acda - Procession
6. Chantal Acda - Own Time
7. Okkyung Lee - Two To Your Left, Five To Your Right
8. Teho Teardo & Blixa Bargeld - A Quiet Life
9. Roj - Home Telescope Kit
10. The Crooked Fiddle Band - The Vanishing Shapes of a Better World
11, The Crooked FIddle Band - Neptune's Fool
12. The Crooked Fiddle Band - LIVE SET

Tonight's edition of Utility Fog (guest-hosted by Heli Newtown) featured an album feature from L.A based, Melbourne electronic artist, Tom Hall. 'Many Days End' (album) showcases lush, warm flourishes of ambience that slowly decay towards the conclusion of each track.

Along with the Tom Hall experience, I thought I'd play some Sound Summit superstars and some of my favourite new releases of this week. Oh, I'm also current obsessed with the Colombian musician Lucrecia Dalt at the moment. As you can imagine, it was pretty hard for me not to play anything from her recent release, Syzygy.

Enjoy!

1. Heinz Riegler - Dissolve
2. Oval - Drift (ft. Augustin Albrieu)
3. ENA - Mule Mouth
4. Dinos Chapman - The Combine
5. Fabels - Ion
6. Mumdance & Logos - In Reverse P.I.V
7. Lucrecia Dalt - Glossolalia
8. Lucrecia Dalt - Soliloquios

10. Tom Hall - Taken
11. Tom Hall - Traveling 1000 miles to Nowhere
12. Tom Hall - Breaking Old
13. Tom Hall - Sustained Relief
14. Tom Hall - Not Existing Before
