Guestses (11:33 pm)
So, as I mentioned on the show on Sunday night, next Sunday (the 5th of March) I'll be in Adelaide, playing at the Fringe with FourPlay. So once again Shannon O'Neill has kindly agreed to step in and fill the slot, and this time he'll be ably assisted by Renae Mason. Sunday, 26th of February, 2006

Starting tonight with some wonderful noise from Sonic Youth, just for the hell of it, and then some wonderful post-classical stuff from Penguin Café Orchestra — two very different groups who've made an indelible mark on a fair proportion of the music of Utility Fog. Sonic Youth - Providence [Geffen]

Lots of new stuff tonight, as well as a visit from Dave Toecutter with an awesome live set and samplers from his new album (launched next Saturday - check his website for details) in the middle there... Great to have a few new Australian releases here, like Because of Ghosts's compilation of releases, and new self-released stuff from ddsot (guitar rocker goes electronic) and 4 Layers of 9 (uncategorisable weirdness)... Jel feat. Stephanie Böhm from Ms. John Soda - All Around [Anticon]

Not much new music tonight, so I'm going to do a couple of trips down memory lane. A few new tunes as well, though.. Tim Buckley - Pleasant Street / You Just Keep Me Hanging On [Manifesto Records]

Well, tonight I'm delving into the archives for a bit of a look at a couple of lovely record labels from the mid-to-late '90s. I don't have a lot of new stuff to play, but we're starting with a look at the pretty damn great new Liars album... Later, a special on a couple of Japanese artists on the Belgian Sub Rosa label, and some other Sub Rosa stuff, plus also a few tracks from the lovely Swedish idm label Dot from the second half of the '90s... Liars - be quiet mt. heart attack [Mute]

email: utilityfog at frogworth dot com Mastodon ![]() Utility Fog teeters on the cusp between acoustic and electronic, organic and digital. Constantly changing and rearranging, this aural cloud of nanotech consumes genres and spits them out in new forms. Whether cataloguing the jungle resurgence, tracking the ups and downs of noise and drone, or unearthing the remnants of glitch and folktronica, all is contextualised within artist & genre histories for a fulfilling sonic journey. Since all these genre names are already pretty ridiculous, we thought we'd coin a new one. So "postfolkrocktronica" it is. Wear it. Now available: free "Live on Utility Fog" downloads!
