Playlist 24.10.04 (10:06 pm)
Lots of new promos and stuff tonight! As well as more from the new Gauche and Triosk albums, we had a sample from a compilation put out by the Melbourne Fringe Festival (a beauty of a track from Inch-time), and various other Australian gems. A bit of a focus also on the more post-rock end of things, although it’s hard to get away from a bit of an electronic focus. A new album by The Boats, featuring the two members of The Remote Viewer (both of whom used to be in Hood) on their own Moteer label. More gems from Static Caravan including the incredible English folk-meets-the hard-disc of Tunng, and disquieting almost-ambience from d_rradio, while Do Make Say Think remix themselves for the excellent new Constellation compilation Song of the Silent Land. Gauche - The Road [self-released promo of forthcoming album Paints Lane]

Utility Fog teeters on the cusp between acoustic and electronic, organic and digital. Constantly changing and rearranging, this aural cloud of nanotech will take you from deep within the world of post-rock (where live musicians sometimes sound like machines), through the realms of folktronica (where acoustic instruments are chopped and processed into new forms) and into the outer reaches of plunderphonics, idm and breakcore (where jungle breaks splatter against the bleeding remains of yesterday's and today's pop). Since all these genre names are already pretty ridiculous, we thought we'd coin a new one. So "postfolkrocktronica" it is. Wear it. Now available: free "Live on Utility Fog" downloads! Fat Planet And on Sydney's long-standing community radio station 2ser, tune in to the highly influential Paradigm Shift on Monday nights, and Leigh Tran's Tape Relay on Tuesdays.
