[gigs] Dubstep comes to Adelaide

Some of you may have noticed a bit of dubstep creeping into my On the Stereo lists at the end of gig guide emails. I’ve been thinking for a while it would be great if someone would put on a dubstep night in Adelaide … well, it’s even better than I expected. Not only is there a dubstep night on at the Rhino Room this weekend, but it features one of the big names in dubstep, Benga, all the way from the UK. Just when you think it couldn’t get much better than that I could point out that it costs just $10!

If you want to know more then you can check out Benga on myspace, or a feature on the BBC site which includes a short documentary film, or this feature at Resident Advisor, or get yourself a copy of the May issue of The Wire for their excellent dubstep primer (obviously anything with Mark E Smith + Mouse on Mars on the cover is essential anyway).

By the way, for former gig guide email readers who know about the gig challenge – it’s done for this year (but I’ll keep going to gigs obviously).

Also, Little Ice Age fans take note – they may have played their last gig as a full band (and it was an excellent show), but they still have a couple of acoustic shows coming up.

I stumbled upon this; Francis Plange with Ned Collette at Urtext, Sept 14.

Hey Derek – thanks for the link to this gig.

Ned Collette’s album has been getting a lot of spins since I bought it earlier this year after he supported Camera Obscura. Francis Plagne sounds pretty interesting too after searching and browsing a few links.
