More scintillating sounds tonight! hellosQuare, from Canberra, goes from strength to strength, with two new releases this week: Seaworthy have a split 3" with M. Rösner, and Adrian Klumps has a new trio with Abel Cross and Ryan Finn called 3ofmillions – stupendous stuff. Gig of the week is this Thursday at the Excelsior Hotel on Foveaux St Surry Hills: Underlapper, Telafonica and Ampersand bringing post-rocky delights. But also, from Wednesday through to Saturday The Necks are playing some very special shows at the Studio @ the Sydney Opera House, with visuals supplied by drummer Tony Buck. Should be magical. Seaworthy – The Moment Everyone Goes Quiet 1 & 2 [hellosQuare] Sunday, 18th of May, 2008

Tonight I featured a fantastic compilation put out by Brooklyn's Rare Book Room called Living Bridge. Found out about it via the Deerhunter blog. Fantastic stuff – and the opening track tonight is the opening track from the album, and is pure genius. Later we have Secret Chiefs 3's interpretations of John Zorn's new Masada compositions, marvellous post-rock from Melbourne's the boats, and heaps more. Avey Tare – I'm Your Eagle Kisser [Rare Book Room] Sunday, 11th of May, 2008

Big new release of tonight is the newie from The Declining Winter, aka Richard Vincent Adams of Hood. It's a beauty. Also the idm-meets-dubstep of Scuba, ex-pat Sydneysider Moving Ninja, a new free track from beautiful chamber-folk dude Inlets, New Zealand experimentalism from Alastair Galbraith and some rather odd stuff from Melbourne's Fabulous Diamonds… Animal Collective – Street Flash [Domino] Sunday, 4th of May, 2008

Couple of older items in tonight's playlist, including a live Founder CD I'd never seen, from 2004, and last year's fantastic esp comp on Melbourne's Nervous Jerk label. Also from Melbourne are the wonderful The Boy Who Spoke Clouds, who kindly sent in a CD of hopefully forthcoming tracks. Nine Inch Nails – Ghosts IV track 6 (I think) [self-released]

Utility Fog teeters on the cusp between acoustic and electronic, organic and digital. Constantly changing and rearranging, this aural cloud of nanotech will take you from deep within the world of post-rock (where live musicians sometimes sound like machines), through the realms of folktronica (where acoustic instruments are chopped and processed into new forms) and into the outer reaches of idm and experimental electronica (where artificial intelligences skitter and crackle, and may just pull at your heart-strings). Since all these genre names are already pretty ridiculous, we thought we'd coin a new one. So "postfolkrocktronica" it is. Wear it. Now available: free "Live on Utility Fog" downloads!
