Evening. Lots of new stuff this week!
Fredo Viola gives us wonderful layered vocals to start with. We have Mamadou Diabate’s incredibly dextrous kora playing; something from Pikelet’s Pre-Flight Jitters that preceded last year’s beautiful album; Brisbane’s Chris Perren, both solo and with his fabulous postrock band Mr Maps; and also from Brisbane, the amazing indie-postrock of The Rational Academy with their long-awaited debut album.
Later, Brisbane also brings us some dubstep via Suckafish P Jones, while dubstep producer Barry Lynn (aka Boxcutter) brings us some mashed breaks under his own name, and The Doubtful Guest (aka Libby Floyd) harkens back to the days of acid rave…

And Autechre’s highly limited (like, 1000 copies worldwide) Special Edition 2CD version of their new album arrived in the mail this week. Registered Post, so I went and picked up the delightfully heavy little parcel from the post office, and tore it open to reveal the amazing embossed metal slipcase, with two CD cardboard gatefold case inside. Tasty! The alternate versions on CD2 really are worth it, and I played one of ‘em tonight.
