Evenin’ guv. I’ve been writing some reviews for the next issue of Cyclic Defrost, which you can read over at Thermostat… some quite pertinent to tonight’s tunes :) Nettle remixed by Leafcutter John - The Ballad of Jimmy Hollin is More Awkward Than That [theAgriculture] Sunday, 18th of June, 2006
Playlist 18.06.06 (10:12 pm)
Good evening. Tonight… A beautiful song by Roy Harper, immortalised by Liz Fraser & This Mortal Coil, but the original version and this live performance by Harper are if anything even more beautiful, because you can hear the fabulous lyric. Roy Harper - Another Day (live, 1974) [EMI, available from Harper’s website] Sunday, 11th of June, 2006

There seems to be yet more new music tonight, oh lordy me. Drill’n'bass pioneer Andrew Coleman , who started life as Animals on Wheels in the mid-’90s, moved on to really great organic folktronic type stuff, and has a new(ish) album out on c0c0s0l1dc1t1, from which we take a couple of tracks. The inimitable Venetian Snares has a newie too, and our first track today is his bizarre take on 13/8 dub. And we have a couple of tracks from an awesome new comp on Ad Noiseam celebrating their first 5 years of existence. Venetian Snares - XIII’s Dub [Planet µ]

Utility Fog teeters on the cusp between acoustic and electronic, organic and digital. Constantly changing and rearranging, this aural cloud of nanotech will take you from deep within the world of post-rock (where live musicians sometimes sound like machines), through the realms of folktronica (where acoustic instruments are chopped and processed into new forms) and into the outer reaches of idm and experimental electronica (where artificial intelligences skitter and crackle, and may just pull at your heart-strings). Since all these genre names are already pretty ridiculous, we thought we'd coin a new one. So "postfolkrocktronica" it is. Wear it. We got tasty rss2, rss or atom feeds - get Utility Fog playlists in your favourite RSS reader/aggregator. Other FBi Radio shows with blogs/online playlists: Fat Planet Vertigo Oh no! It's Levins!
