Tonight, tonight, tonight… Yesssss. Um. Some great alt-hiphop, new to me, on the Endemik Music label, some beautiful new Coil from what is sadly their last album, and lots more… Skyrider - Masters of Deception [Endemik Music] Sunday, 22nd of January, 2006
Playlist 20.01.06 (9:06 pm)
Bogdan Raczynski surprises with a brilliant remix of Björk to start the show tonight; and speaking of remixes, just released is a new EP from Chessie featuring a wonderful Dntel remix that actually dates from 2003, and sounds it - yum! Björk - Who Is It? (Shooting Stars & Asteroids mix by Bogdan Raczynski) [Rephlex] Sunday, 15th of January, 2006

More delving into the archives tonight… A few acts performing at the Sydney Festival, and not so much new stuff. But the Aleks & The Ramps disc (band from Melbourne) is fantastic, and it’s great to have new Keith Mason, via a compilation called it’s over, we don’t care on Castings‘ label Spanish Magic… Elvis Costello & The Brodsky Quartet - I Almost Had A Weakness [Warner Brothers] Sunday, 8th of January, 2006
Playlist 08.01.06 (8:54 pm)
What with the dearth of new releases around this time of year, I’m going to play a small amount of new stuff that’s come in, but also delve into the archives. I’ve pulled a bunch of CDs off my “rock” shelves and we’ll see what we get. Nothing I haven’t played before, but some things which haven’t been heard for a while… And indeed a few more gems from 2005 found their way in as well, including some never-before-played (on this show, and possibly on Australian radio) stuff from the Sending Orbs label, run by Reimer Eising aka Kettel. XTC - Harvest Festival [Idea Records/Cooking Vinyl] Sunday, 1st of January, 2006
Playlist 01.01.06 (9:04 pm)
Part two of the Utility Fog 2005 retrospective. Last week I played a whole lot of stuff that rocked my world in the last year, but boy oh boy there’s heaps more. So we’ll have another 3 hours of great 2005 releases, and maybe I’ll slip in a couple of items that will be grabbing our attention in early 2006. David Sylvian - The Heart Knows Better (Remixed by Sweet Billy Pilgrim) [Samadhi Sound]

Utility Fog teeters on the cusp between acoustic and electronic, organic and digital. Constantly changing and rearranging, this aural cloud of nanotech will take you from deep within the world of post-rock (where live musicians sometimes sound like machines), through the realms of folktronica (where acoustic instruments are chopped and processed into new forms) and into the outer reaches of idm and experimental electronica (where artificial intelligences skitter and crackle, and may just pull at your heart-strings). Since all these genre names are already pretty ridiculous, we thought we'd coin a new one. So "postfolkrocktronica" it is. Wear it. We got tasty rss2, rss or atom feeds - get Utility Fog playlists in your favourite RSS reader/aggregator. Other FBi Radio shows with blogs/online playlists: Fat Planet Vertigo Oh no! It's Levins!
