Well! Tonight is Utility Fog’s end-of-year wrap - as many of the top songs of 2004 as I can fit into one show. You may be interested to peek over at my blog, where I’ve posted an extremely long list of my favourite releases of 2004… There’s no way in the world I could get through everything I wanted, and there’ll be a bit of an overflow into next week… Midnight Oil - Jimmy Sharman’s Boxers [CBS/Sony] Sunday, 19th of December, 2004

Another week, another show… Crazy weather has rendered this weather-allergic presenter a little, well, “under the weather”. Should nevertheless be able to bring you another fun-filled show. It’s that time of the year where nothing much new is coming out, so we’ve just got all the goodies that were new in the last few weeks, plus digging up a couple of great old things like Future Sound of London’s first record for Virgin (as Amorphous Androgynous)… Starting with my Channukah special, to get in the spirit of things (that is, the atheist Jewish anti-Christmas spirit of things, of course!) They Might Be Giants - Feast of Lights [Six Degrees]

Can’t practically think of anything to say tonight, just a bunch of music really. Yeah. Some awesome new stuff, some old, so it goes :) Even As We Speak - 30 Miles (Peel Session, 1993) [unreleased, copy direct from Mary Wyer of EAWS]

Playlist 05.12.04 (9:12 pm)
Starting with a long track - the classic “Towers of Dub” from the Orb, for no other reason than I felt like it. A rag-bag tonight, lots of great tunes, no specials that I can think of… I’m in a slight tizz because Paul “Pimmon” Gough has injured unfortunately himself, so I’ll be filling in tomorrow (Monday December the 6th) from 12-1pm on Paul’s Playlunch (which, to be totally honest, I’m really excited about). Wish me luck waking up on time - it’ll be an hour of mothers & fathers :) The Orb - Towers of Dub [Big Life/Island Records]

Utility Fog teeters on the cusp between acoustic and electronic, organic and digital. Constantly changing and rearranging, this aural cloud of nanotech will take you from deep within the world of post-rock (where live musicians sometimes sound like machines), through the realms of folktronica (where acoustic instruments are chopped and processed into new forms) and into the outer reaches of idm and experimental electronica (where artificial intelligences skitter and crackle, and may just pull at your heart-strings). Since all these genre names are already pretty ridiculous, we thought we'd coin a new one. So "postfolkrocktronica" it is. Wear it. We got tasty rss2, rss or atom feeds - get Utility Fog playlists in your favourite RSS reader/aggregator. Other FBi Radio shows with blogs/online playlists: Fat Planet Vertigo Oh no! It's Levins!
