Playlist 03.10.04 (9:29 pm)
Tonight, no special interviews or anything, just MUSIC MUSIC MUSIC. Relax and get into the tunes… The lovely Mr Tim Koch sent me a number of new releases with stuff of his on them, so we’ve got some Timmy K tonight as well as a few more samplings from the Morr Music Japan Tour 2004 EP and the awesome Misplaced Pets comp on Misplaced Music. Newcastle label Killing Sheep have a fab new dark drum’n'bass comp out called Urban Affliction, and we’ve got more experimental electronics from new Vibragun artist Blackletter (anyone got a link or anything? It’s great stuff…) And Tunng’s new 7″ is still bending my brain into new shapes - I played the B-side last week, and we’ve got the A-side this week. I think I’ll revisit that other track next week, ‘coz there’s nothing quite like this stuff. Tim Koch - Broken Slumber [u-cover]

Utility Fog teeters on the cusp between acoustic and electronic, organic and digital. Constantly changing and rearranging, this aural cloud of nanotech will take you from deep within the world of post-rock (where live musicians sometimes sound like machines), through the realms of folktronica (where acoustic instruments are chopped and processed into new forms) and into the outer reaches of plunderphonics, idm and breakcore (where jungle breaks splatter against the bleeding remains of yesterday's and today's pop). Since all these genre names are already pretty ridiculous, we thought we'd coin a new one. So "postfolkrocktronica" it is. Wear it.
