FBi Birthday Bash! (1:52 am)
It’s FBi’s 1st birthday next Sunday! Part of the celebrations includes FBi’s inaugral Supporter Drive. Stations like 3rrr in Melbourne (probably the most successful example) derive a huge proportion of their income from supporters/subscribers/members (whatever you want to call it), and as you can imagine, running a radio station doesn’t come cheap! So if you’ve been enjoying Utility Fog over the past year, I strongly recommend getting on the phone next Sunday during the show and dialling 8 33 22 945. There’ll be lovely people waiting on the phone lines to take your name and details so that you can become an FBi supporter. There’s prizes to be won, plus all sorts of benefits right through the year, plus you’ll feel warm & cozy because you’re helping this wonderful radio station keep itself, and thus unique shows like this one, on air week after week.

Utility Fog teeters on the cusp between acoustic and electronic, organic and digital. Constantly changing and rearranging, this aural cloud of nanotech will take you from deep within the world of post-rock (where live musicians sometimes sound like machines), through the realms of folktronica (where acoustic instruments are chopped and processed into new forms) and into the outer reaches of plunderphonics, idm and breakcore (where jungle breaks splatter against the bleeding remains of yesterday's and today's pop). Since all these genre names are already pretty ridiculous, we thought we'd coin a new one. So "postfolkrocktronica" it is. Wear it.
