It’s our 1st birthday! Tonight’s show is a greatest hits compilation of sorts. I’ve brought in a whole heap of favourites from the last year’s Utility Fogs - and a smattering of new stuff too… The Sugarcubes - Birthday (Justin Robertson 12″ mix) [One Little Indian]

FBi Birthday Bash! (1:52 am)
It’s FBi’s 1st birthday next Sunday! Part of the celebrations includes FBi’s inaugral Supporter Drive. Stations like 3rrr in Melbourne (probably the most successful example) derive a huge proportion of their income from supporters/subscribers/members (whatever you want to call it), and as you can imagine, running a radio station doesn’t come cheap! So if you’ve been enjoying Utility Fog over the past year, I strongly recommend getting on the phone next Sunday during the show and dialling 8 33 22 945. There’ll be lovely people waiting on the phone lines to take your name and details so that you can become an FBi supporter. There’s prizes to be won, plus all sorts of benefits right through the year, plus you’ll feel warm & cozy because you’re helping this wonderful radio station keep itself, and thus unique shows like this one, on air week after week.

Well FBi Radio turns 1 next Sunday, so we’re talking literally 1st birthday celebrations! This week, a few new things (Erast aka Nikakoi, new ADAADAT comp, Beefcake vs Kris Tall), a few classics - whadday expect? A number of quite long tracks tonight mean that the playlist looks a bit short - never fear, it’s the full 3 hours! The Mabels - Shifting Sands (Hydroplane remix) [Candle Records]

The wonderful Cornel Qua played Frigid tonight, so maybe I saw you there! (Note for the eagle-eyed: I changed the tense of this after the fact, yup!) And afterwards, 3 hours of quality Utility Fogness for ya brain and ears… John Cale - Hedda Gabler [Rhino]

Utility Fog teeters on the cusp between acoustic and electronic, organic and digital. Constantly changing and rearranging, this aural cloud of nanotech will take you from deep within the world of post-rock (where live musicians sometimes sound like machines), through the realms of folktronica (where acoustic instruments are chopped and processed into new forms) and into the outer reaches of idm and experimental electronica (where artificial intelligences skitter and crackle, and may just pull at your heart-strings). Since all these genre names are already pretty ridiculous, we thought we'd coin a new one. So "postfolkrocktronica" it is. Wear it. We got tasty rss2, rss or atom feeds - get Utility Fog playlists in your favourite RSS reader/aggregator. Other FBi Radio shows with blogs/online playlists: Fat Planet Vertigo Oh no! It's Levins!
