Playlist 21.12.03 (1:14 am)
With today’s playlist, an attempt to get it out there while the show’s still going… Took me a while to get the networking working though, but it’s up now at 1:16am - not bad! Started with a classic of alienated English post-punk from someone who probably represented everything the punks hated with his prog-rock in Genesis… Still, Peter Gabriel’s early stuff is twisted as all fuck. No specials or anything this week, just lots of good music, new and old. Next week’s show is the last for the year, and I’ll be doing a flashback-show, cramming in all the favourites from Utility Fog in 2003. Please feel free to drop a comment if there’s something you’d like to hear again. Peter Gabriel - I Don’t Remember [Charisma]

Tonight featured the interview with Efrim from Godspeed/A Silver Mt Zion, and I should mention the fabulous editing help from the lovely Ms Angela Stengel :) (producer of Dan Buhagiar’s Tuesday night Bridge show, Sydney Music History…) Even As We Speak - Beautiful Day [Sarah Records]

Playlist 07.12.03 (1:49 pm)
For my return, lots of new stuff in evidence, as well as a bunch of quite old stuff. It’s all about balance ya know. The new b. fleischmann CD is one of the releases of the year - only got to play one track today, so more coming next week! Other new stuff will be explored next week, and a special long interview with Efrim from A Silver Mt Zion is coming too - not this week as previously planned. We did have a special on Jimmy Taborello aka Dntel, half of The Postal Service & a third of Figurine… We had a remix of Radiohead by Christian Vogel (since FBi is playing the wonderful Four Tet mix quite a bit), followed by his duo Super_Collider with Jamie Lidell, and an examination of how much an influence Messiaen has had on Jonny Greenwood of Radiohead… And on it goes, with some awesome new ragga jungle at the end too. Talking Heads - The Great Curve [Sire] Wednesday, 3rd of December, 2003
Playlist 30.11.03 (4:45 pm)
I was away for this week, on tour with FourPlay in Queenscliff and Melbourne, so Angela and Serena stepped in to play a fantastic selection culled from my collection and their own. Reports in say that it sounded just like me (but without so much breakcore admittedly *grin*). FourPlay - Lilli Pilli Drive (Raven’s glitch’n'bass evolution mix) [Smart Pussy/Vitamin]

Utility Fog teeters on the cusp between acoustic and electronic, organic and digital. Constantly changing and rearranging, this aural cloud of nanotech will take you from deep within the world of post-rock (where live musicians sometimes sound like machines), through the realms of folktronica (where acoustic instruments are chopped and processed into new forms) and into the outer reaches of idm and experimental electronica (where artificial intelligences skitter and crackle, and may just pull at your heart-strings). Since all these genre names are already pretty ridiculous, we thought we'd coin a new one. So "postfolkrocktronica" it is. Wear it. We got tasty rss2, rss or atom feeds - get Utility Fog playlists in your favourite RSS reader/aggregator. Other FBi Radio shows with blogs/online playlists: Fat Planet Vertigo Oh no! It's Levins!
