*phew* (12:43 pm)

Well! A few weeks ago I started having a few troubles with my laptop - most importantly, I started getting a horizontal line across the screen, which I could get rid of with some fiddling around the edges, but it would come back after the laptop was moved, or sometimes it’d come back anyway.

So after much fiddling, I decided to call Dell’s technical support. I was most pleasantly surprised that they were not only helpful (as they’ve always been) but they actually understood my level of competence and gave me suggestions at that level (rather than “Now move your mouse towards the menu bar and click the word ‘File’…”)

We ascertained that it wasn’t software, but was definitely a hardware issue. Next step: Getting it fixed. I was scared because it’s been longer than 3 years since I got the laptop, but it seems that somewhere along the line I extended my warranty. First brow-wiping, then. However, my extended warranty doesn’t extend to actual on-site next business day repairs, so I had to have it picked up on Tuesday morning. In the meantime, I cleverly copied my Outlook personal folder files onto Dad’s computer and was able to check my mail using my email client, another *phew*
And finally this arvo my beloved Ravenous (home of Raven, you see?) has returned! Copied Outlook thingies back, and mostly everything seems normal. Except Norton AntiVirus has decided to de-Activate itself in the meantime (odd) and Mozilla decided to sort my bookmarks alphabetically, till I told it not to again. Strange little oddities.

The new LCD seems to be better than my old one! I am happy. Now to head into the city for more of Dad’s court case *sigh* Hopefully it’ll be over soon, and I can post something about how it went.
