RIP John Peel (12:00 am)
The passing of a legend. How very sad. He was at Sónar this year, not looking the worst for wear… [Indeed not looking any different than he has for the last 10 years!] *sigh* I just thought I’d edit this because I was thinking about how many bands, like mine, like Gauche or Triosk or 65daysofstatic (he certainly loved the latter), will get to record Peel sessions now. I think for this Sunday’s Utility Fog I’ll have to pull out a bunch of Peel session recordings to play. Thursday, 21st of October, 2004
*phew* (12:43 pm)
Well! A few weeks ago I started having a few troubles with my laptop - most importantly, I started getting a horizontal line across the screen, which I could get rid of with some fiddling around the edges, but it would come back after the laptop was moved, or sometimes it’d come back anyway. So after much fiddling, I decided to call Dell’s technical support. I was most pleasantly surprised that they were not only helpful (as they’ve always been) but they actually understood my level of competence and gave me suggestions at that level (rather than “Now move your mouse towards the menu bar and click the word ‘File’…”) We ascertained that it wasn’t software, but was definitely a hardware issue. Next step: Getting it fixed. I was scared because it’s been longer than 3 years since I got the laptop, but it seems that somewhere along the line I extended my warranty. First brow-wiping, then. However, my extended warranty doesn’t extend to actual on-site next business day repairs, so I had to have it picked up on Tuesday morning. In the meantime, I cleverly copied my Outlook personal folder files onto Dad’s computer and was able to check my mail using my email client, another *phew* The new LCD seems to be better than my old one! I am happy. Now to head into the city for more of Dad’s court case *sigh* Hopefully it’ll be over soon, and I can post something about how it went.

Anthony Green on the Senate (10:15 pm)
“Anthony Green”. Those two words, strung together, immediately evoke that voice, the face… Strange really, because for large slabs of our lives we don’t think a lot about good ol’ Anthony, but he’s always there, the guru on the mountain of ballots. Anyway, he’s got a very interesting write-up on the state of the senate, over at Crikey. Worth a read if nothing else to check out what he has to say about Senate reform in the last paragraphs.

What can you say? (11:11 pm)
Well, there’s nothing to say really. Very depressing. Another victory for lies and selfishness. Let’s all brace ourselves now for a Bush win in the US :/ Monday, 4th of October, 2004
Pop Will Reform Itself (7:21 pm)
If only I could afford to buy a ticket from Sydney to Birmingham just to see them play…
