This kitten does not share your values (1:34 am)
I know all about these kittens - cuteness and political satire, all at once!

Not Happy, John (10:34 pm)
Margo has an excellent letter from a disaffected Liberal farmer to her (Liberal) MP, explaining that although she is thankful for the work he’s done for his electorate, she can’t vote for him this time, because she can’t countenance a vote towards Johnny Howard. And she lists her reasons, a rather wonderful exhaustive (well indeed, not even nearly exhaustive, despite its length) list of grievances with our beloved PM. I’ve been thinking lately about what I’ll be saying to Liberal voters if I’m handing out Green how-to-votes on election day, and this list is a good place to start with my own! Just Not John (12:09 pm)
Just Not John is a nicely designed site with the right idea. I must ask Dad if he’s handing out Green how-to-votes at our polling office again this time (I think he’s a member of the NSW Greens rather than Federal, but that probably shouldn’t matter) - if so, Ange & I will be keen to join in!

RNC NYC (12:05 pm)
Via BoingBoing, here’s a story by one of the many many people incarcerated during the protests against the Republican National Convention held in NYC recently. He was wrongfully arrested for basically just being there (and even mentions an “interesting” conversation with a young Republican who happened to be walking in the wrong place and got arrested, punched in the face, and generally maltreated) and held for an astonishing 40 hours before he finally got in front of a judge (and immediately let out with an “ACD” (Adjournment for Contemplation of Dismissal), which means no charges are made and no record is held, but you have to not get arrested for the same within the next 6 months. Very interesting.

Just Fucking Google It (12:11 am)
I just can’t tell you the number of times I could’ve done with this site in the past! Google is your friend, too right. If someone asks you something stupid, take the Google search and put the search bit into the justfuckinggoogleit URI, and send it to them. Thus, for instance: I know it is possibly a bit harsh - there are times when you don’t want to accuse someone of being “stupid” so much as point them in the right direction. Still, lotta fun. Oh - and I forgot to mention before that I got this link from the latest (print-issue) New Scientist :)
