Naomi Klein points out the alarming, although entirely unsurprising, news that the Bush administration is trying to bully NGOs (let’s remember that stands for Non Goverment(al) Organisations) into toeing the government line: Bush to NGOs: Watch Your Mouths.
The target is particularly humanitarian NGOs, and there’s a clear link with the US’s current foreign policy, using the threat of withdrawal of aid as a tactic for bullying governments in various ways: indemnifying the US army from prosecution for war crimes, or (so I’ve heard) even pushing for anti-abortion legislation in some countries…
