Well my goodness it's been (12:26 am)

Well my goodness it's been a while hasn't it!
While I've been away not-posting, I have, among other things, played at Womadelaide with FourPlay (which was fantastic, great audiences both times, and had a wonderful time in Adelaide, hanging out with friends including Mark href="http://www.superscience.net/index2.html">Super Science and Tim Koch and others), I've been madly organising the FourPlay remix compilation, and played at the Blue Mountains Folk Festival at which I had my bag stolen – very infuriating I can tell you… Lost discman, lots of CDs, two books (Paul McAuley books, replaced now – he's an utterly wonderful author), prescription sunglasses, etc etc. An expensive business replacing, and I've replaced most now!

One irreplaceable (unreplaceable?) item was my href="http://www.cstrecords.com/html/godspeed.html">Godspeed You Black Emperor! t-shirt… You know, the one with the Hebrew writing on the front? My favourite t-shirt! If anyone knows where I can get another one (the Slow Riot For Zero Kanada EP one, black with brown Hebrew on the front, white English lettering on the back, size: L), please tell! I'll pay money, yes money, not flowers or shit or toothpaste.

I haven't posted because, well fuck it, I don't know what to post. I can put up like, personal details and stuff, but what about links? Goto Virulent Memes for deft political and musical commentary and amusingness, or href="http://dev.null.org/">The Null Device for the same. Go awn, outta here! Come back soon, who knows, there might be more on offer…

Just read an article in (2:59 pm)

Just read an article in last weekend's Sydney Morning Herald Specrum by Helena Echlin that they titled Critical Massacre, a great and to my mind entirely-to-the-point examination of the woeful effect of postmodernism (or Critical Theory, or Theory) on the academic arts. You can find the original at Arete Magazine's site, entitled Letter from Yale.

Of course, anyone who doesn't share my horror at the sloppy thinking and obfuscatory wording practised and encouraged by "Theory" will probably have an apoplectic fit on reading it. Sucked in ;)

Well, it's been BUSY! Insane (9:42 pm)

Well, it's been BUSY! Insane really, at the moment our kichen's been taken out and bits of the new one are all over the house, and half the carpets are being taken up tomorrow as well (polished floorboards a'comin'!), so we've been moving furniture like crazy. Life is mad. Lucky I'm going to Adelaide on Wednesday – getting there early to see some Adelaidean friends before playing with FourPlay at Womadelaide on the weekend! Now that should be an experience!
I'll miss my Ange in the meantime though. Ah, get a grip…

In the meantime, I've been reading a bit, slowly making no dent at all in those piles of books, which just seem to get larger (how could that be? Argh! my trip to Melbourne soon will only increase the piles of books and CDs – but how can I complain really?)

The FourPlay remixes are coming along nicely now! Thanks for asking. If enough people ask, I might put up the whole list of remixers so far – but it's a bit premature… they're not all in yet!

What have I done since (10:36 pm)

What have I done since I last posted? Quite a lot… Been to Tasmania with FourPlay, which was GREAT fun! Our last gig, two nights ago, was in a little club in Hobart called "Temple Place", with a packed audience who were utterly silent and very appreciative. Lovely!

Before then, went to Frigid's three Opera House Wednesday nights of course, and DJed at one of the Sundays, which was most enjoyable.
I saw a preview showing of the utterly amazing movie Requiem For a Dream. The most full-on movie I've ever seen, pretty much, so any recommendation comes with a big warning – scenes of drug-use, one of the most relentlessly depressing story-lines… But the director Darren Aronofsky (of Pi fame) has the most fabulous sense of style; it looks amazing, it's beautiful and very moving (helped along by the soundtrack by Clint Mansell of my favourite band ever Pop Will Eat Itself, much of it played by Kronos Quartet)… Jennifer Connelly is as gorgeous as ever ;)
I've been reading heaps, and I'm about to update the Current reading list. Lots of new music coming out very soon – new Tortoise, Richard Devine, Delarosa and Asora, Lesser, Matmos, Nobukazu Takemura, Jake Mandell… A new DJ Food EP. Can't wait, and you'll hear about it all hear of course *grin*

Oh and I'm going to Melbourne soon! That'll be awesome! In the meantime, we're playing at Womadelaide in a couple of weeks, which'll be great, but Melbourne is a holiday, going down with Ange, seeing friends, seeing What Is Music? gigs, buying heaps of music and books and… oh dearie! Fuck me dead, etc… Wahoo.

OK, over and out. More frequent posts soon, let's hope!
