We didn’t get all that far into the suburbs but did cross the Bay Bridge to get to the Berkeley area. That’s the uni part of town. We wandered through the pretty campus of rolling green hills and Roman style buildings. Student elections were on so that made the main road more lively.
Other than the uni, there were two cool streets to wander down. Shattuck had a great French cafe where we stopped at for brunch, and Telegraph had more incense sticks, street stalls and a branch of Amoeba Music.
Oh, and yeah, Shattuck was the street where the spam photo (below) was taken but don’t hold that against the area.
In the arvo we traipsed up to Alamo Square where the (probably) most photographed row of Victorian houses are. I’d post a photo now except that I’m sitting in a conference session without my camera – the joys of multi-tasking (and free wifi).
**Note**
My multi-tasking skills mustn’t be that great because I forgot to mention two exciting things about Berkeley:
1. There was a girl busking on Shattuck St by playing the saw (and the following night we’d go to Cafe du Nord to see Amiina who did an encore on four saws).
2. There was a great op-shop back on the main street called Crossroads Trading Co. where I bought a jacket for $13.50. I say great because I’m not usually any good at buying vintage gear, yet I walked into this place without realising it wasn’t new stuff.
